Kostas Mitroglou was once more the key player for Olympiacos. In the Greek Classico on Saturday, the young striker scored the goal that gave his team the away win against fierce rivals Panathinaikos.

That win is the first after 30 years for Olympiacos in the historical home of Panathinaikos, the Leoforos Alexandras stadium.

Panathinaikos were overall better than their opponents but Mitroglou had the last word. In the last minute of the match Mitroglou got away from his personal opponent, Kostas Triantafillopoulos, and after a nice combination with David Fouster he scored.

In a generally very tough game with little action in front of the two goalkeepers, Panathinaikos had two great chances to score, but in the first case David Mendes da Silva missed the chance and in the second Luciano Figueroa did not manage to find net.

David Mendes da Silva of Panathinaikos was the best player on the pitch alongside Kostas Mitroglou and Spyros Risvanis, the young centre back of Panathinaikos, who managed to stop Mitroglou.

Mitroglou, who is expected to depart from Karaiskaki Stadium and Olympiacos as soon as January transfer window opens, proved that he has the ability to become a great striker.

Mitroglou had been blocked from Panathinaikos defenders (the young centre-back Risvanis was magnificent in this role) throughout the match but he needed just one moment to get away from defence and score the winning goal.

A professional win for Olympiacos, but now everyone has to focus on the Champions League match against SL Benfica -  a must-win game for Olympiacos if they are to qualify.
