Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points after a comfortable 2-0 victory over high-flying Liverpool.

Two stunning strikes from midfielders Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey was enough to secure the three points for the Gunners.

Cazorla fired Arsenal ahead after his original header from a Bacary Sagna cross had rebounded off the post, which caught Liverpool goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet off guard, which gave Cazorla enough time to sail in a fine volley from inside the penalty box.

The second goal came from a superb effort from the man of the moment, Ramsey. After picking up a lobbed pass from Mesut Özil, the Welshman blasted a fantastic volley from outside the penalty box to secure the game for the Gunners.

Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, will be disappointed with the result after their bolstering confidence from their opening games, and the deadly duo of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge netting 14 goals between them.

However Liverpool showed some quality today, goalkeeper Mignolet, made some fine saves during the game, stopping the likes of Olivier Giroud and Özil throughout the game.

Liverpool would have felt they had been denied an equaliser after Suarez's quick free-kick to Sturridge who played in Jordan Henderson to tap it home, was retaken because it was too quick for referee Martin Atkinson's liking.

The man of the match was Arsenal midfielder, Mikel Arteta, who gave a midfield masterclass where he overshadowed the Liverpool midfield to set the platform for an Arsenal win.
