Top 5: Premier League defensive partnerships (1)

Published Add your comment

The form of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez at Liverpool this season has meant much talk around the Premier League has been about the deadliest strike partnerships around.

However, Arsenal's recent win over the Anfield club has caused much of this debate to be quietened thanks to an accomplished defensive performance from the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.

So, this it is a fitting time to have a discussion about who we think are the leading defensive partnerships in the Premier League and GMS have coem up with a top five.

There is no doubting that defending is about so much more than just the back line, a well organised team is essential, but the two players standing guard in the centre of defence are incredibly influential.

Manchester United pair Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic were once the undoubted leading defensive pair in the Premier League but injury and old father time have meant their powers aren't quite what they were.

GMS have picked out five pairs currently performing fantastically and have rated them in order of goals conceded.
