Chelsea were one of three clubs rejected by Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
The 26-year-old, who is widely regarded as the best footballer of his generation and one of the greatest players of all time, also refused offers from Bayern Munich and Barcelona's arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Adidas were reportedly keen to see Messi play at one of their sponsored clubs and were prepared to pay €125m - or half of his buyout clause - in order to help force a move through from the Camp Nou.
However, Messi refused to entertain the idea of leaving the 'club of his life'.
The Argentina international, winner of the previous four Ballon d'Or awards, has a strong emotional attachment to the Catalan giants, who paid for his growth hormone treatment as a teenager.
With Barcelona he has won over 20 team trophies, plus a host of individual awards, and he has reiterated that he hopes to spend his entire career with the reigning La Liga champions on numerous occasions in the past.
