As far as Premier League campaigns go, the early stages of the 2013/14 season have been wildly - some might even say gloriously - unpredictable.

While it was expected that the race for the title would shape up in typically mundane and uninspiring fashion, a number of the division's heavyweight outfits have struggled to assert themselves in recent weeks and, as a result, the top four has a slightly different look to it as we enter the winter months.

However, with the new year on the horizon, this could all be set to change. The infamous January transfer window gives teams the chance to address their respective faults and bolster their lineups sufficiently heading into the vital final few months.

Here, with January inching ever closer, GMS pinpoints five potential transfers that, were  they happen, could have a sizeable impact upon the title race.
