Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers claims his side are “playing catch up” with Premier League leaders Arsenal, after he saw his side beaten 2-0 at the weekend.
Despite the defeat the Irishman refused to criticise his team following their low-key performance on Saturday night.
The result saw Arsenal extend their lead at the top of the division to five points, with thanks to strikes from Santi Cazorla and the in-from Aaron Ramsey.
"You don't get to play them again so you've got to claim the points.”
Rodgers admitted it will take time in order to build a squad fit to challenge his rivals , but insisted he was more than satisfied with the strong start to the campaign.
"We want to stay there. We know we're trying to build something here in the depth of our squad, and the nature of our game,
"Without a major investment that just takes a bit of time.
The Liverpool boss also acknowledged the performance of returning Brazilian Philippe Coutinho, after his first appearance since undergoing shoulder surgery in September.
Rodgers added: “He's a wonderful player. He's a big talent for just under £8million. He's remarkable: his feet, his talent, his ability on the ball. He was great when he came on and of course we'd have loved to have started him.”
