The undisputed 'King of Clay' has spoken of his wish for the ATP Tour Finals to be moved away from London's O2 Arena, as he feels that the indoor atmosphere on hard courts isn't right for the importance of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of his first match at this years finals, which he won in straight sets over fellow countryman David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, Nadal told reporters: "In this tournament we qualify by playing on all surfaces, but the Tour Finals are always on hard courts.

"'We could change every year to play it on the surfaces we qualify for the Finals. That means, for example, a good clay-court player would have the chance to play on his best surface."

It appears that his desire to move away from the indoor hard court setting is heavily fuelled by his lack of success in the tournament, with his best result being a defeat in the final to Roger Federer back in 2010.

In fact, throughout his career Nadal hasn't been prolific on indoor courts as he has only won two of his 60 career titles on the surface, hampering his chances of being crowned champion at the ATP Tour Finals.

If the event was to be moved to clay, then Nadal would be almost a certainty to win the title, as his dominance over the last decade on clay has been immense, not giving many of the other top players a chance.

It could too cause a lack of competitiveness at the tournament as many top players struggle to adapt, one such player being Andy Murray who pulled out of this year's Roland Garros due to the surface aggravating his back injury.

This year's tournament however, does pose the best chance yet for Nadal as despite the good recent form of Juan Martin del Potro and Stanislas Wawrinka, his sparkling form means that only Novak Djokovic might be able to stop him.

Thus, it will be interesting to see if Nadal's opinion changes if he experiences success this week, finally breaking his Tour Finals duck.
