With Mourinho given the go ahead to sign a new striker and rumour after rumour that Chelsea are set to launch a bid for Lewandowski, many are left wondering; would it be a great signing?

Well let's look at value for money first. £7million is great for a player who's half as good as him so £7million for a Champions League runner up who scored 36 in 49 games last season is a bargain. With the big Pole already bagging 13 in 17 this season, who says he can't carry that on under the guidance of the 'Special One'?

Will he be a hit? Well he can't be any worse than what Chelsea already have and it's not a secret that the Blues need a new hitman.

Ba has not been able to grasp form at all and apart from a few athletic goals he's been below par, Eto'o was past it when he joined Anzhi and Torres is only just re-finding form, but not in the Premier League. Lewandowski would be a breathe of fresh air for the Stamford Bridge outfit, and maybe, just maybe, start to fill that empty hole Drogba left.

Chelsea have a future star in Lukaku but I feel none of the current strikers will give him the competition needed to up his game. However I do think that Lewandowski can.

Not only could he spearhead Chelsea to another Premier League title and maybe more silverware in European competition, but he will give Lukaku that competitive edge to become a great and so be an ideal signing with reference to the future as well.

The final reason he should join Chelsea is to prove himself a great.

Now, he's done that in the Bundesliga but the Premier League is debatably still the best league in the world due to it's physicality, fast paced action and the fact that it's more open than most league's.

If he can make it here he will surely place a solid claim as to being the best striker in the world.

Will he join? I hope so as Stamford Bridge would be the best place for him and he'll be great to watch week in and week out. There's few defenders who can cope with him when he's at his best, and he could add an extra element to an already explosive campaign.
