Crystal Palace's survival hopes have been dealt a cruel blow after learning midfielder Adlene Guedioura will be unavailable for up to six weeks.
The 27-year old, who joined the Eagles from Nottingham Forest this summer, is suffering from a punctured lung, as well as two broken ribs.
The injury occurred after a collision with Boaz Myhill, which lead to Guedioura being taken off on a stretcher during the clash against West Bromwich Albion.
Caretaker boss Keith Millen told The Daily Express: "It doesn't look good for him - he's fractured two ribs and it's damaged his lung as well.
"For cracked ribs, you're looking at around at least six weeks out. The trouble with cracked ribs is that you can't exercise and you can't get your heart and lungs going."
The Algerian international hasn't featured regularly for Palace this season, but will be missed, in a squad that is lacking quality and currently sits bottom of the Premier League.
The division's whipping boys have only accumulated three points in their opening 10 matches, and should things not improve, are looking to be in serious trouble.
The club are currently on their worst run of results for over 10 years, having lost the last seven successive matches, scoring only two goals during that time.
Millen continued: "Some injuries, you can keep your cardiovascular fitness up, but with this injury you can't do anything.
"In four weeks' time, if he can do some exercise and it's not aggravating him, then great, he can."
Palace will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday, when Everton make the trip to Selhurst Park.
