Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to renew his interest in Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao in January, according to the London Evening Standard.
Tottenham were reportedly interested in the defender during the summer but an offer never materialised.
Coentrao earns £100,000 a week in Madrid but has only made three appearances this season, and will be given plenty of first-team opportunities if he joins Spurs.
AVB is a big fan of the Portuguese defender and is interested in bringing him to White Hart Lane on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Tottenham are currently struggling in this position, as Rose is injured and Assou-Ekotto is out on loan, leaving them with playing either Kyle Naughton or Jan Vertonghen out of position on the left side of the defence.
Villas-Boas believes that the 25-year-old has the necessary attacking and defensive qualities to improve Spurs' squad and is keen for Tottenham to negotiate.
Although Coentrao may be reluctant to join a club not playing in the Champions League, he may notice the opportunity for first-team chances if Portugal qualify for the World Cup; he'd want to be playing regularly in the build-up to next summer’s tournament, which Portugal will reach if they defeat Sweden in a two-leg play-off later this month.
