Manchester United supporters have been presented with something of a unique opportunity, after a person purporting to have ownership of Roy Keane's original contract with the club making the document available to buy on ebay.

With a starting price of £2000 set for the contract, which Keane penned in July 1993, one lucky fan could soon be in possession of the former club captain's very own copy, although how it fell into the hands the seller, Capshark, is unclear.

"What I'm offering is Roy Keane's copy of the contract that he signed when he joined United," reads the description.

"There are two documents.

"The first is a four-page contract signed by Keane, [Sir Alex] Ferguson and Martin Edwards.

"The second, on Manchester United headed paper, is seven pages long and details the full offer made to Keane in terms of earnings and other benefits, each page signed by Keane and Edwards."

Keane joined Manchester United from Nottingham Forest for a then British record transfer fee of £3.75 million, and went on to make 480 appearances during 13 years at Old Trafford.

The former captain won seven league titles during his time with the club, but left Manchester United after his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson soured, as documented in the recently retired manager's autobiography.

Keane, meanwhile, was appointed on Tuesday as the assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland, with Martin O'Neill taking the top job.
