Jose Mourinho says Samuel Eto'o is finally recuperating his best form after scoring twice for Chelsea in the Champions League last night.
The Cameroon international hit an impressive brace in Chelsea's 3-0 win over Schalke played at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Last night was the first time Eto'o has shown what he is capable of since joining the Blues from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer. Previously he had scored just once in 10 appearances.
But Mourinho says his performance against the Bundesliga outfit is proof that the 32-year-old is rekindling the form that convinced Mourinho to buy him from the Russian club.
He said to reporters: "My favourite players are the players that win matches for me, not the ones that lose matches for me.
"Samuel worked with me in the best season of my career. We won everything. So he's in a good position.
The Portuguese manager said that he was not surprised to find Eto'o lacking match sharpness when he joined Chelsea, having played without "big motivations" in the Russian Premier League for two years.
He continued: "He was for two years playing without big motivations and when you play without big motivations, you train without big motivations and you lose condition, and you lose sharpness, and you lose even appetite.
"It was not a surprise for me that he arrived here not in the best conditions after two years in Anzhi.
"Now step by step he is getting better. He is 32 but he's a fit, slim guy.
"He's not a heavy body. He's intelligent, of course, and I think goals give confidence.
"The first one is a fox goal, the second goal is a very good collective goal.
"Willian's choice is fantastic, Ramires' run to give an extra option to Willian is fantastic and Samuel's movement was brilliant."
