Roberto, or Roberto Jimenez Gago to grant him his full name, has enjoyed a great season so far.

He is on season-long loan deal from Atletico Madrid and is a personal choice of coach Michel, who asked for his loan during the previous summer transfer window.

He was the first-choice goalkeeper from the start of the season. He had good and average performances with few mistakes and generally he has proved to be a trustworthy and talented goalkeeper.

Roberto was on loan to Benfica during the 2010-11 season and did not enjoyed his stay there as after his first poor performances he fell out of favour and finally returned to Atletico Madrid at the end of his loan spell.

Newspapers in Portugal were pinpointing him as the weak side of Olympiacos and encouraged Benfica’s players to simply aim at Roberto. But the Spaniard goalkeeper waited for the match to respond.

In Tuesday’s Champions League against Benfica, Roberto was more than magnificent. In a match that Benfica dominated, Roberto had seven amazing saves and finally kept the clean sheet for his team. And with the goal that Kostas Manolas scored with a header after a well taken corner kick from Jose Cholevas, Olympiacos took the win and the three points.

Olympiacos was bad throughout the whole match. They did not take the control of the match at any time but San Roberto was always there. His name was chanted by Olympiacos’s fans, who asked him to stay forever to their club.

Roberto is having a very good season so far and it is going to be extremely difficult not to attract the attention of his club Atletico Madrid, especially when Thibaut Courtouis returns to Chelsea.
