Three of the Premier League's top sides have been told they can sign Spanish winger Diego Capel for £6 million in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Express.
Liverpool and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have had impressive starts to their league campaigns this season, with all three clubs being credited with an interest in Sporting Lisbon’s 25 year-old midfielder.
Diego Capel is one of the Portuguese side’s highest earners and the club are looking to cut back on wages, so have offered the English trio a chance to strengthen their squads in the next window.
The tricky Spaniard has two caps for Spain and scored five times for Sporting Lisbon last season as the side struggled in the league, finishing in a well below par seventh.
The 18 times Portuguese champions signed Capel back in 2011 from Sevilla, where the winger made his name and attracted interest from clubs all over Europe.
Capel was linked with a move to Spurs when Juande Ramos was in charge but it never materialised, however the number 11 is said to be keen on making the step up back to one of Europe’s more high profile leagues.
News of a cheap deal in January may tempt one of the title hopefuls into the transfer market, with all three clubs reportedly willing to invest again in the next window despite
being amongst the big spenders over the summer.
If this proves to be the case, it may not be long before the Premier League is home to another product of Spain’s seemingly endless talent pool.
