Arsene Wenger has revealed his surprise at how prolific Aaron Ramsey has become, according to the Metro.

Ramsey scored his 13th goal of the season in last night's tremendous 1-0 away victory over Dortmund.

But despite sticking with the Welshman when critics were saying he shouldn't be in the team, Wenger admitted he had not seen the flurry of goals coming.

"A year ago I thought it would be difficult for him to score but he is a young player and is confident and has improved tremendously – which is a huge credit to him," Wenger said.

"He was in the box in right positions but he couldn’t score. This season he scores in game after game.

"I was always positive with him. When you watch his games he was always in situations where he could be dangerous.

‘This season he has the confidence and he has an unbelievable engine to get from box to box. His ability makes him a dangerous player."

The 22-year-old, who suffered a horrendous leg-break in February of 2010 after a challenge from Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, has had an astonishing start to the season, winning Arsenal's player of the month award for the fourth consecutive time.

Ramsey will be looking to continue his relentless goalscoring form in this weekend's clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Arsenal will hope to pull out an eight-point gap on last year's Premier League champions.
