Steven Gerrard fears Luis Suarez summer exit from Liverpool
The Liverpool captain is worried the Uruguayan striker will leave if Liverpool fail in top-four hunt
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard fears Luis Suarez will leave the club in the summer if they fail to qualify for next year's Champions League.
Luis Suarez has been in fantastic form since his return from suspension and has bagged six goals in just five Premier League games.
Clubs like Real Madrid and Arsenal would be interested in taking the Uruguayan superstar from Anfield and the Liverpool skipper is worried Suarez will leave if miss out on top-four this season.
"Luis is in good form,” Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo. "The team are playing well, so January won't be a problem.
"But come the summer, I think depending how Liverpool have done will determine what goes through Luis' mind.
"His goals, his performances and his form will be the key to whether we finish in the top four."
33-year-old Gerrard has played with a host of excellent players during his time at Anfield and his partnership with Fernando Torres was one of the deadliest in the Premier League.
Torres was brought to Anfield by Rafael Benitez in the summer of 2007 and scored 65 times in 102 games for Liverpool – many of the goals assisted by Gerrard – before leaving for Chelsea in a £50million move.
But despite the successful cooperation with the Spaniard the England captain insists that Suarez is the best player he has ever played with.
He said: “Yes. Simple. He’s out on his own.
“The only player who comes close to producing what Luis has done in a red shirt is Fernando Torres — but Luis just pips him.”
