With Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard entering the twilight of their careers, the hunt is on for potential replacements for the Premier League legends.

The search may be over, however, as Aaron Ramsey of Arsenal embodies the best qualities of both players and could soon become Arsenal's and the Premier League's most valuable asset.

Much has been written about the Welsh international since his remarkable turnaround in form.

11 goals in his opening 14 games for the Gunners has given Arsenal fans hope that he is starting to fulfil the massive potential that convinced Arsene Wenger to fight Sir Alex Ferguson for his signature.

Well on his way to over 20 goals a season, the 22-year-old has shown the ability to score from distance as well as popping up in the box at just the right moment.

His goalscoring exploits from midfield echo that of Frank Lampard, who recently became Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer.

At the same age, Frank Lampard scored just six goals for Chelsea (2001/02) proving Ramsey is on course to match similar achievements at the Emirates if he remains at the club.

But whilst Lampard has benefitted from an attacking role at Chelsea over the last decade, Ramsey has played in a deeper role and, with Mesut Ozil in front of him, is unlikely to be granted an advanced position soon.

So far it hasn't mattered, Ramsey is scoring and assisting goals for fun but that's not where his contribution ends.

Ramsey has averaged 4.7 tackles a game in the Premier League this season - one of the highest in the division, showing that he contributes to the defence as well as the offence.

In every way, Ramsey is a born and bred box-to-box midfielder just like Liverpool's living legend Gerrard.

The Anfield skipper has had an incredibly successful career out of being a box-to-box player, seemingly popping up everywhere he's required.

If there was anything missing from Gerrard's game, it was his lack of goals.

Gerrard's best return in the Premier League was 16 goals in the 2008/09 - a feat Ramsey is likely to match this term.

It is hard to find faults with Gerrard and Lampard but the lack of goals from Gerrard and the lack of defensive duty performed by Lampard over the years represents two missing components from their game.

Ramsey has shown that he is more than capable of defending the way Gerrard did whilst also showing his prowess in front of goal.

The 22-year-old has taken the best components from the Chelsea and Liverpool stars and blended them together to form what should be one incredibly influential player in the years to come for Arsenal and for Wales.
