Manchester United to battle Chelsea for Sevilla star

Published Add your comment

Manchester United will rival Chelsea for the signature of highly-rated Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno, reports the Daily Express.

According to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo the 21-year-old left-back has a growing list of admirers, with La Liga giants Real Madrid also monitoring the player's situation at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Real Madrid's interest might stem from former manager Jose Mourinho, who is also understood to be keen to bring the Spain international to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in January.

Chelsea will face stiff competition for Moreno's services though, after it emerged that Red Devils boss David Moyes wants him at Old Trafford, as he continues his search for a long-term replacement for current first-choice left-back Patrice Evra.

Moyes has also been heavily linked with a move for Leighton Baines, but Everton's continued resistance to part with the England international might now have turned Manchester United's attention to Moreno.

However, the youngster won't come cheap to the Premier League champions either, after Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido revealed that he won't leave Spain for less than his £25million release clause.
