NBA star abandons game in first-half for hospital dash
Memphis Grizzlies' Zach Randolph was forced to leave a game mid-way to be present at the birth of his child
Memphis Grizzlies' power forward, Zach Randolph, caused quite the stir when he left halfway through his side's game with the New Orleans Pelicans, so that he could witness the birth of his child.
The 6ft 9in NBA star started on court as normal, but was forced to abandon the fixture in its first half as he received word that his fiance had gone into labour.
It was announced at halftime that Randolph had made to the hospital in time to be present at the birth of his son, who weighed in at 7-pounds and 4-ounces.
The Grizzlies will no doubt understand the nature of the unexpected departure, but it won't stop them from feeling that their fortunes may have been better off had he remained on court.
The Pelicans came away with a 99-84 victory from the FedEx Forum, and the Grizzlies looked naturally weaker without their power forward leading the line.
