Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he prefers Angel di Maria to Mesut Özil, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Real Madrid manager allowed Özil to leave to join Arsenal in the summer, to many people's surprise.
But the Italian says he is a greater fan of the Argentinian attacker than the German playmaker, who are both considered to be world-class individuals.
He told Marca: "I prefer to have Di María for the team's balance. Di María is better than Özil for group dynamics."
Ozil had a successful three seasons at Madrid, contributing 15 assists in his final La Liga campaign.
But Ancelotti felt that the 25-year-old was not prepared to deal with the competition at Madrid, with the arrival of Gareth Bale at the club.
"Özil understood that he had competition, that he wouldn't be able to play every game, and 'I'm off' was his answer.
"He wasn't comfortable. I knew he'd been speaking with another club because he wanted to leave."
Mesut Özil has praised the support from his new manager Arsene Wenger and said he had not received the same treatment at Madrid.
Özil has been sensational in his short time at Arsenal with five league assists and two goals while in La Liga this season, Di Maria has one goal and two goal contributions.
