Real Madrid look set to win the race for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Ilkay Gundogan.
Los Blancos have reportedly signed a first-refusal deal with Gundogan, who has also been chased by Arsenal and Manchester United in the past.
With Arsenal looking to build on their top-of-the-table side and United looking for a star player to get them out of their current rut, Gundogan would have been ideal for either.
But Spain looks his most likely destination should he leave Dortmund in the summer. The 23-year-old has been impressive once again in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, putting away his first of the season in the 2-1 win over Bayern Munich.
Gundogan had been looking to build on an impressive season last year, after making 45 appearances in Dortmund’s season that included a Champions League final defeat to league rivals Bayern Munich and a second place league finish.
Any potential deal that could see Gundogan move to the Bernabeu could see Xabi Alonso become unsettled.
Rumours have been rife in Spain that the former Liverpool man is becoming unsettled at Madrid, and the signing of Gundogan could see the midfielder leave the club.
