Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed his delight at the side's 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Red Devils forward set-up the only goal of the game for Robin van Persie on 27 minutes, delivering a corner for the Dutchman to head past Wojciech Szczesny.

It's a result which has understandably thrilled Rooney, with the Red Devils now just five points behind the Gunners in the battle to reach the top of the table.

He told his official Facebook page: "Get in there! Great performance from the lads, onwards and upwards!"

The England international did have a half-chance to seal the victory for Manchester United in the second-half, but his left foot shot went agonisingly wide of of the post.

It didn't prove to be a costly miss however, as David Moyes' side held on for a 1-0 victory to move up to fifth in the table.

Arsenal, meanwhile, remain top of the table, although their lead is now just two points.

The international break means the two teams won't be in action again for a fortnight, when Rooney and Manchester United make the trip to Cardiff.

Arsene Wenger's side will welcome high-flying Southampton to the Emirates Stadium.
