Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has said his team were 'very unlucky' in the game against Newcastle, which saw the hosts lose 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

Loic Remy put the visitors ahead after a quick start from the Toon, and an inspired performance in goal from Tim Krul denied Tottenham Hotspur the opportunity to climb back into the top four of the Premier League table.

AVB spoke to Sky Sports after seeing his side - who have struggled for goals all season - draw another blank.

"We gave the first half advantage to Newcastle, although I think we were very unlucky during all of the game," he said.

"We had so many good, good chances that I think the result is very unfair. Obviously Newcastle came in strong and really played well in the first half.

"I think they deserved to get that lead, I think we didn't recognise ourselves in the first half. We were not on top of our game and let ourselves be anticipated a lot. It wasn't one of our better first halves.

"Still we had some good opportunities in the first half, then in the second half if we had been a bit more lucky we could have drawn the game and gone on from there. Disappointing because it's not what we deserved. We gave a good response in the second half."

Villas-Boas also praised the performance of Krul, who made a number of crucial saves throughout the game to claim all three points for Alan Pardew's side.

"Last season he had a great game here as well, and today he was the inspiration. He made the difference today," he concluded.

The result means Spurs go into the international break down in seventh place, although they sit just five points off the top of the Premier League table. And, next up is a tricky trip to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

For Newcastle, who move up to ninth in the table, it's a clash against Norwich City at St. James' Park.
