Chelsea striker Eto'o lined up for MLS move

Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o could be set to move for a move to Major League Soccer, with reports suggesting that the veteran Cameroonian has emerged as a transfer target for Toronto FC.

32-year-old Eto'o only joined the Blues from troubled Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala during the summer on a deal reportedly worth a total of £4 million, yet his Stamford Bridge future is not considered by many to be long-term with his initial deal set to expire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star initially struggled to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, yet he has shown encouraging signs of improvement of late having netted for Jose Mourinho's men in recent clashes against both Cardiff and West Brom.

According to the Daily Express, though, Toronto are eyeing Eto'o as a potential alternative to Jermain Defoe.

The MLS outfit, who are managed by former Queens Park Rangers defender Ryan Nelsen, are reportedly offering the Spurs and England forward a £90,000-per-week deal to entice him to BMO Field.

And while the Express believe that 31-year-old Defoe remains the club's preferred option, the paper claim that Eto'o is also a target as Toronto look to land a powerful marquee signing.
