Mesut Özil grounded by Arsenal bug
Germany coach Joachim Löw confirm the Gunners midfielder will stay in London due to flu
Arsenal's star man Mesut Özil has joined the list of players struck low by flu and could miss Germany's friendly with Italy on Friday.
National team manager Joachim Löw told German newspaper Bild that Özil and his Gunners teammate Per Mertesacker had been advised to stay in London and not to fly after falling ill.
Mertesacker was forced to miss Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United on Sunday after waking up feeling under the weather before the match - Tomas Rosicky, Serge Gnabry and Mikel Arteta were also affected, though the latter two still played.
Özil failed to make much of an impact in the game, drawing plenty of criticism for how quiet he was, so this latest development may go some way to explaining his performance.
If they are unable to recover in time for the match at the San Siro, they will stay in London and wait for the arrival of the rest of the squad, as England host Germany at Wembley on the following Tuesday.
