Arsenal & Manchester City race for Monaco defender

Both Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in acquiring the services of Monaco's on-loan right-back Fabinho, according to reports in France.

The 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength for the principality club this season after joining from Portuguese club Rio Ave in the summer on a season long loan deal.

Having spent the previous season languishing in Real Madrid's second string, Fabinho has starred for the Ligue 1 outfit, starting nine games in the league so far this season.

He has seemingly done enough to convince Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini to turn to Fabinho as they hunt for a new full back.

Pellegrini currently has Pablo Zabaleta and Micah Richards to use in that position but, ironically, the latter has been linked with a move to Arsenal, meaning the Chilean would have a space in his squad to fill.

Wenger is currently on the look out for a long-term replacement for Bacary Sagna, who is in the last few months of his contract with the Gunners.

However, the Premier League duo must first fend off competition from Monaco, who are considering a permanent deal for the Brazilian youngster, while PSG are also considering a move.
