While Lionel Messi may be sidelined for up to eight weeks with a thigh muscle injury, there are still plenty of places you can see the great man in full flight - this brand new, and brilliant, Samsung advert being one.

Fans across the globe have been waiting with bated breath after Samsung ran a string of adverts claiming aliens would take over the globe if they won a game of football.

Fortunately, the human race have the Barcelona ace - once described as an alien himself - to come to their rescue, and he does so in spectacular style in the big-budget Samsung ad.

With Franz Beckenbauer present to lend a helping hand, the Barcelona man evades his would-be captors before he is cornered by the German legend, who hands him the captains armband to lead mankind against their other-world invaders.

Check out the Barcelona superstar in action above!
