Chelsea boss ready to sell £35m Barca target
David Luiz moving towards the exit door at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to wield the axe on defender David Luiz, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claims the Portuguese tactician has finally lost patience with the Brazilian international, and is now ‘ready to do business’ for the 26-year-old.
Barcelona were heavily linked with a move for the centre back, who can also play in midfield, during the summer transfer window. Indeed, they turned down two bids for the player, with the second reported to be £35million.
However, the Catalan giants have retained an interest in the player, the paper claims, and will look to come back in for the player in January in an effort to bring him to the Nou Camp.
Gerardo Martino is relatively light of options at the back, with the La Liga champions forced to play Javier Mascherano in the position on occasion because of injury.
Luiz, unlike Carles Puyol, has plenty of years ahead of him, and Barcelona may look to capitalise on the uncertainty in west London.
Mourinho was eager to keep hold of the player when he first returned to Chelsea, with ‘the special one’ eager to assess his squad at Stamford Bridge.
The former Benfica star has failed to impress this season however, and found himself on the bench once again at the weekend as John Terry and Gary Cahill started at the back for the Blues.
Despite his popularity with the Chelsea fans, his time may have come on the King’s Road, and the January transfer window is now looming large on Luiz.
