Barcelona's Lionel Messi has suffered yet another hamstring related injury and has been ruled out for six to eight weeks, reports the Daily Mail.

Messi was dealt the unfortunate hamstring injury during Barcelona's La Liga fixture against Real Betis.

The Argentine international tore his hamstring and was forced to limp off the pitch after just 21 minutes.

Barcelona released a club statement which read: "According to the club's medical services, the tests taken on Monday morning by Leo Messi have confirmed that the player has suffered a torn muscle in the femoral biceps of his left leg.

"The approximate time he will be out is between six and eight weeks.

"The first part of his recovery will take place in Barcelona and the second, in Buenos Aires."

The Argentine is now likely to miss out on Barcelona's four Primera Division matches, two Champions League group ties against Ajax and Celtic and both legs of their Copa del Rey fixture against Cartagena.

The 26-year old has been somewhat unlucky this season; what with suffering numerous injuries over the course of the last few months. Other than an injury to his hamstring, he also missed a week of football due to a bruised thigh and then a further three weeks due to a muscle tear in his leg.

Messi has however maintained an impressive goalscoring record and has found the back of the net 14 times in his last 16 games for the club.

Messi is set to miss his country's upcoming friendly fixtures against Ecuador and Bosnia and Herzegovina due to his injury.

The absence of the Argentine should not come as a heavy blow to Barcelona as the reigning Spanish champions have Brazilian wonderkid Neymar and Chilean Alexis Sanchez, who have been in fine form this season.
