Mark Lawrenson thinks that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke should be Arsenal's number one transfer target when the window opens in January.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mirror, the former defender turned pundit, said: "If I were Wenger I’d give Aston Villa whatever they want for Christian Benteke.
"What an option he would give them - particularly with the chances they would create for him."
Lawro appears to be simply reiterating what many Gunners fans have felt for a while - another quality striker would provide them with the consistency required to remain at the Premier League's summit.
This isn't the first time Arsenal and Benteke have been mentioned in the same breath.
There has been ongoing speculation regarding the Belgian's future and the Gunners have often been at the forefront of any rumours.
Arsenal's need for a striker was reiterated after Nicklas Bendtner came on for Arsenal in the game against Manchester United on Sunday.
The lacklustre displays from the Dane leaves many wondering why Wenger allowed him to become Arsenal's second choice striker.
The Match of the Day pundit went on to say: "Olivier Giroud can’t possibly play every game with Arsenal fighting for silverware on several fronts.
"Benteke would share the load, bully defences and give the Gunners the depth up front that they need."
Lawrenson's comments do provoke thought: Can Arsenal be successful this season with just one in-form striker?
Arsene Wenger does of course have Bendtner at his disposal, but the Dane hasn't scored a goal for the north London club since March 2011.
