Everton star Leighton Baines is hoping that England's upcoming friendlies with Chile and Germany draw the attention away from the upcoming Merseyside derby.
The Toffees currently occupy sixth spot in the Premier League, just three points off neighbours Liverpool, with the anticipated derby coming immediately after the international break.
With the usual hype surrounding the fixture surely in the pipeline, Baines confessed it's nice to escape it all whilst on international duty.
The England left-back told club's in-house TV channel: "When a derby is coming up everyone gets excited and you just want to get out there and do it.
"But we get to switch off from it to some extent because a lot of us go away for quite important games for our countries and hopefully we'll come back together and get a good result."
The defender has been the subject of much speculation this year, following a summer of strong rumours linking him with former boss David Moyes at Manchester United.
The defender's chances of joining the club in January were knocked back recently by new boss Roberto Martinez, who was quick to quash any rumours of a mid-season move.
However, with the derby around the corner Baines remains focused on the task in hand, insisting Everton's defensive record leaves them in a good position going into the fixture.
"The positive is back-to-back clean sheets," he added. "It makes it six in 11 games, which is a decent ratio."
