With the World Cup in Brazil looming closer every day and the England team preparing for international friendlies against Chile and Germany, is it right to say that England can go to Brazil and win the World Cup?

If you were to ask an England fan the question: Can England win the World Cup? They will probably reply with an emphatic 'No' or possibly 'We won't even make it past the group stage' or 'We're lucky to be out there'.

Former England players have voiced their opinion on whether England will win the World Cup in Rio next year.

West Ham midfielder Joe Cole believes England can win the World Cup next year with a team that "excites" him with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.

On the other hand ex-Liverpool winger John Barnes believes there will be too many teams better than England in Brazil such as hosts Brazil, Germany and current World Cup holders Spain. However, the former England international added that England can go there with the confidence to do well.

FA chairman Greg Dyke has recently criticised Premier League teams for not giving homegrown players enough playing time in the Premier League.

Where as young players such as Daniel Sturridge  Jack Wilshere are flourishing in the Premier League and playing consecutively, players with huge potential such as Wilfred Zaha have been left out of first team football and must reside to the reserves.

This is an issue for most teams in the Premier League who often put homegrown players either in the reserves or are put out on loan to a team in the lower leagues.

What this results in is young English players not playing on the highest of stages in club football which will damage their reputation to represent their country on the world stage

I think that England will not win the World Cup in Brazil.

I think this because even though Roy Hodgson is the best choice for England manager, the current squad has flaws that need working on. Another reason is that the other teams competing will be too strong for England. Brazil, Germany, Spain, Holland and Argentina all have superior squads and a better chance of lifting the trophy.
