One of the biggest stories heading into the 2013 season was the move of Lewis Hamilton from McLaren to Mercedes.
The decision was seen as stupid by many and people also believed the 2008 champion would wipe the floor with his now team-mate Nico Rosberg.
The German had the upper hand over Michael Schumacher in the three years the pair were together though most thought this was due to the seven-time champion not having the same speed in his second career as he did his first.
But with just two rounds to go Rosberg has one more victory than Hamilton though the Briton is 16 points ahead in the drivers championship.
"Quite often I've been ahead of him," Rosberg told Germany's Sport Bild this week, "but I've had more technical problems.
"Lewis' season has gone quite smoothly, so I'm a bit behind him on the points.
"If we talk about pure speed, we are about equal.
"It's great, because it's for duels like this that I came into Formula One -- I am constantly looking for ways to get ahead of my teammate.
"I can assure you that Lewis is incredibly fast," he added.
This week as Lotus looked for a replacement for Kimi Raikkonen it is understood the Enstone based team contacted Schumacher to see if he was interested.
He declined, but his manager Sabine Kehm claimed it was the performances of Rosberg compared to Hamilton that led to a wave of new respect towards the legendary German.
"Many people have changed their assessment about Michael because of Nico Rosberg's recent performances compared to those of Lewis Hamilton," she said.
"Michael drove as well as Nico, just as Nico is driving as well as Lewis," Kehm told Bild newspaper.
