Cristiano Ronaldo treated unfairly - Pepe

Pepe believes his Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has been treated unfairly in regards to the Ballon d'Or award, reports

The Portuguese superstar who won the award whilst playing for Manchester United, has failed to add to his Ballon d'Or success at the Bernabeu.

And despite having not won the award since since 2008, Pepe believes Ronaldo is the best player in the world.

Pepe, who is currently on international duty with Ronaldo as Portugal prepare to take on Sweden in the play-off to reach the World Cup, believes his teammate should have more individual silverware.

When speaking to reporters about Ronaldo, Pepe said: "We know that, even just for the figures Cristiano has racked up, it’s not normal that he’s only won the Ballon d’Or once after being to the gala seven or eight times.

"It just shows that a lot of strange things happen in football. It’s not fair what has happened to Cristiano.

"I hope he wins the Ballon d’Or. Blatter’s comments have been a real eye-opener for a lot of people.

"What Cristiano does is beyond compare. He has an unbelievable record and he’s the best player on the planet. As I say, you cannot compare him to anyone right now."

Ronaldo will be desperate to lead Portugal to the World Cup and will have to be at his best if the national side can overcome Sweden over two legs.

The Portuguese superstar will have to come up against another one of the world's greatest players as Zlatan Ibrahimovic will star for the Swedish national team.
