Wayne Rooney hails England focus

.

Wayne Rooney says England are looking 'sharp and focused' ahead of their international double-header over the next few days, with Chile and Germany awaiting for Roy Hodgson's side.

England host Chile at Wembley on Friday, their first outing since confirming their place in next summer's World Cup, before Germany visit London four days later in something of a glamour friendly.

Back-to-back wins in front of a home crowd is the aim for England, and Rooney claims he and his colleagues are in good shape after returning to international training.

"Good couple of days with the England lads so far. Everyone's looking really sharp and focused in training," the Manchester United striker posted on his official Facebook page.

"Hopefully we can put on a great performance tomorrow! Will you be watching?"

Should Rooney score in either of the two matches ahead, then the 28-year-old will break new international ground on a personal level, by recording his most potent year in an England shirt.

Rooney has scored six times in only eight appearances for his country in 2013, equal with the Old Trafford star's haul in 2009, and one more goal will set a new personal best.

As well as breaking his own record, one more goal for Rooney will take him 10 behind Manchester United and England icon Bobby Charlton's tally of 49, which remains the most by a player for the Three Lions.
