Manchester United look set to bolster their ranks with an important addition, with reports claiming that the club are in talks to bring the Premier League's head of elite development to Old Trafford.

New Red Devils manager David Moyes is evidently still re-shaping the makeup of his back-room staff after taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson this summer and it appears as if he is keen to be reunited with John Murtough.

The two men previously worked together at Everton, where it is said that Murtough was at least partly responsible for overseeing the rapid development of the likes of current Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, as well as both Seamus Coleman and Ross Barkley.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester United - who have experienced somewhat of an upturn in fortunes of late after a worryingly mediocre start to their latest title defence - are in the process of discussing a potential severance package with the Premier League for Murtough.

Murtough boasts a rather impressive CV, with two separate spells with Everton and four years with fellow top-flight outfit Fulham to his name.

Manchester United fans will presumably be extremely keen to discover just what impact he can have on the club's latest crop of young stars.
