The fight for the signature of Diego Costa looks set to intensify even further, with reports suggesting that the in-form Atletico Madrid striker has a release clause in his contract.

Brazilian born Costa - who recently created controversy by pledging his international future to Spain - is one of European football's most prolific frontmen.

The 25-year-old has terrorised La Liga defences at will during the early stages of the 2013/14 campaign and has already notched 13 goals in just 13 matches.

Such formidable form has inevitably led to much speculation over Costa's future, with the former Real Valladolid star having been linked with a transfer away from the Vicente Calderon.

Thought to be included among the long list of potential suitors for Costa - full name Diego da Silva Costa - are Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

But while thoughts of a transfer were previously thought to be somewhat unrealistic, that may have all changed.

According to reports in Germany cited by the Daily Express, Costa has a release clause of £20 million that can be activated as early as next summer.

Such news would presumably be gratefully welcomed by that aforementioned trio. With Arsenal desperately requiring adequate competition for Olivier Giroud, Costa would be a massively welcome addition at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are also believed to be in the market for a new forward given the struggles of Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o.

Liverpool would appear least in need of another forward given the devastating partnership recently formed between Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. However, with the former having been linked with a potential switch to Real Madrid, manager Brendan Rodgers would be wise to draw up a contingency plan.
