Rafa Benitez is considering a surprise move for Tottenham's Mousa Dembele, according to Italy's Il Mattino.
Napoli, who signed Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon this summer, are looking to significantly strengthen their squad this January as they aim to challenge Juventus and Roma for the title as well as getting themselves back into the Champions League.
Their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has openly admitted he hopes to add a full-back, left-back and midfielder to the Italian giants side this winter.
It's understood that former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Benitez had hoped to bring in Javier Mascherano or Liverpool's Lucas Leiva - but now hopes to try and prise Dembele away from White Hart Lane.
The Belgium international has become a prized asset for Andre Villas-Boas in north London with a string of fine performances in central midfield since joining from neighbours Fulham in August 2012.
However, the Belgian is said to be dissatisfied with his role at Spurs - which has alerted Benitez and co in Naples.
Despite the interest from Italy, it's highly unlikely the Lilywhites will allow the man they bought for £15million to leave less than two years after joining.
