Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is determined to face the challenge of making a place in England's World Cup squad, reports Goal.com.

Despite being set to win his 103rd cap, Lampard admits he has to compete for a place in the squad with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Michael Carrick and Ross Barkley.

The Chelsea ace, who is now the temporary captain of the Three Lions in Gerrard's injury caused absence, doesn't seem to be relaxed amid current achievements.

He told reporters: "I'm not silly. I understand that I'm in a dogfight to get into the squad and I can see the young players coming into the squad and pushing me.

"I understand that, no matter what age you are, you have to react. You have to worry about yourself and perform as well as you can. If you end up looking around at others, wondering who's performing better, you take your eye off the ball.

"I understand that, with age and at different parts of your career, you have different challenges. The manager has always said it doesn't matter if you're 17 or 35 going on 36, he'll not look at you any differently, so that's nice to hear.

"The rest is up to me and I'm very determined to meet the challenge that's facing me."

Moreover, Lampard hopes to use his frequent displays at Chelsea to earn a place at Roy Hodgson's list.

He continued: "If your form isn't good enough in the next six or seven months until our season finishes...we all have to be on top form. I don't think it should be any other way.

"If I walked around thinking my 103 caps would get me on the plane, I'd probably be on the beach because that means you're taking things for granted. I don't think any of us can afford to do that."
