With Robert Lewandowski almost certainly leaving Borussia Dortmund, the German club have had to consider potential replacements - one of which is Diego Costa, according to the Daily Mail.

Brazilian Costa has been in amazing form this campaign, with an impressive 13 goals in just 13 appearances so far this season in Spain, with 17 in all competitions.

This has made him a target for many clubs including a number of Premier League parties said to be interested - Liverpool reportedly failed to sign him in the latest transfer window.

The 24-year-old has a €24million (£20.1m) release clause in his contract and would be interested in a move to the Bundesliga, despite recently signing a five-year extension in his contract at Atletico until 2018.

German magazine Sport Bild said 'Costa likes the Bundesliga and has inquired about Dortmund in conversations with former players of the club such as Dedé and Marcio Amoroso.'

Diego Costa's agent is Jorge Mendes who also represents Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao and Jose Mourinho, so is guaranteed to be able to get a great deal wherever he goes.

Lewandowski seems set to join former team-mate Goetze at Bayern Munich, after the Pole refused to sign a contract extension and was forced to play out the final year of his deal, despite interest from the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the summer.
