Manchester United put Wayne Rooney contract talks on hold

Manchester United have no plans to begin contract talks with Wayne Rooney this year, according to the Daily Mirror.

Manchester United are said to be in no rush to offer their star man a new contract – despite the fact that the 28-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of next season.

The Sun suggested on Friday that Manchester United were preparing to offer Rooney, who has been in devastating form for the Red Devils this season, a new four-year deal worth a reported £52million.

However the Daily Mirror seem to think that Manchester United will not open talks with Rooney’s representatives until 2014.

Manchester United will be keen to tie Rooney down to a new long-term deal, particularly as Chelsea were keen on the England international last summer.

Chelsea could sign the Manchester United forward on a free transfer in the summer of 2015 if he doesn't sign a new deal, however Rooney has stated he is happy at Old Trafford now that he is playing under David Moyes.
