England suffered a 30-22 defeat at the hands of New Zealand, who stretched their winning run to an incredible 13 games in the process.

In an absorbing contest, the visitors raced into a 17-3 lead at Twickenham following early tries from Julian Savea and Kieran Read, but the home side fought back and went 22-20 ahead on the hour mark.

At that pointed it looked as though there would only be one winner, but the All-Blacks had other ideas, demonstrating why they are the world's best as a late Savea try was converted by Aaron Cruden to give them a deserved victory.

Despite the defeat, Stuart Lancaster's men can keep their heads held high after what was a spirited and determined display.

England got off to a disastrous start as Kieran Read's deft handling beat three defenders before Savea ghosted through to touch down the first try of the afternoon.

Dan Carter then fired over the conversion to leave the hosts trailing as early as the second minute, and after the two sides traded penalties Read himself crossed over to give New Zealand a 17-3 lead.

However, England weren't deterred as they set about reducing the deficit, and they did that after 23 minutes as Joe Launchbury claimed what was to be their only try of the match.

Owen Farrell converted as the home side began eating away at the All-Blacks lead, and three penalties from his right boot pulled the score back to 20-19 after 52 minutes.

England then went in front for the first time in the contest, again through a Farrell penalty, but ultimately their comeback mattered little as Savea struck just after the hour to give his side a hard-fought victory.
