Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has received a boost in his pursuit of a new striker after being given the green light to sign Brazilian star Alexandre Pato in January.

The Gunners could be set to make a swoop for the former AC Milan forward after Corinthians hinted he may be available for £10 million, with a loan deal also a possibility.

A long admirer of Pato, Wenger failed in his previous attempt to bring the striker to London last January, with the 24-year-old returning to his home country of Brazil after six years with Italian giants AC Milan.

But with Arsenal keen to bolster their attacking options, which rest heavily on front man Olivier Giroud, Wenger could finally land his man when the transfer window opens once again.

Despite their defeat to reigning champions Manchester United last weekend, Arsene Wenger’s men remain top of the Premier League after 11 games, ahead of their home fixture with Southampton next Saturday.
