Pirlo v Scholes v Xavi: Which is the greatest midfielder of them all? (6)

Published 64 Comments

As rated by their peers....

Xavi: "He is one of the best players around, he’s a specialist in his position and no-one comes close to him. And usually I can’t stand it when people say things like that." - Santi Cazorla

Scholes: “He’s almost untouchable in what he does. I never tire of watching him play. You rarely come across the complete footballer, but Scholes is as close to it as you can get.

“One of my regrets is that the opportunity to play alongside him never presented itself during my career.” - Zinedine Zidane

Pirlo: "Pirlo is a truly great player. He gives value in terms of organisation and skill. Unfortunately, it is the goal-scorer who stays in people's minds. But players like Pirlo are exceptional, they give added value. Hats off." - UEFA President Michel Platini

And that seems like a good note to end it on....but who is the best?

Well that seems like a rather churlish question given the greatness of all three men; enjoy Pirlo and Xavi while you still can and look back on Scholes' career and admire. If nothing else, we've proven that there is little to separate these true greats.

Feel free to have your say below however....
