Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson insists that his side has the quality in their ranks to “go all the way” in their challenge for trophies this season.

The Lily Whites have made a relatively good start to the season, and find themselves seventh after 11 league games. Their defensive discipline has been especially singled out for praise, with the Spurs centre-back being part of a back-four that has conceded just six goals and has kept seven clean sheets.

And the centre-back believes that they can build on their solid defensive displays and mount a serious title challenge, and is also confident the attacking players have what it takes to score plenty of goals.

“It’s great keeping clean sheets and I take great pride in that. As a team, we have worked very hard at that aspect. Yes, we would have liked to have scored a few more goals and turned a few more of the draws into wins," said Dawson.

“But we have had a great start. Our best in the Premier League. We have to take a lot of positives from that, and those goals will come.”

The White Hart Lane crowd has admittedly seen very few reasons to cheer so far this campaign, with their side finding the net just nine times. In fact, Gylfi Sigurdsson (3) and Roberto Soldado (4) are the only Spurs players to have scored more than once in the league; and behind them Paulinho and Andros Townsend are the only other players to have scored league goals in their ranks.

Dawson however is quick to point to the quality and squad depth that Spurs possess, and he says that this is what will carry them through this campaign.

“As the manager says, the aim is to win a trophy this season and we are going for every competition. But everyone wants to play every game and the squad we have now means that any team the manager chooses can do well in the Premier League.”

After a disappointing home defeat to Newcastle last weekend, Spurs face a difficult trip to Manchester City on Sunday, as they look to get their league form back on track.
