David Beckham is set to make his first signing for his new Miami football team; Miami Heat superstar LeBron James.

Beckham wants LeBron to get on board with his new franchise in the hope that he will be able to boost the profile of the new franchise.

The Mail On Sunday reports that informal discussions between the pair have already taken place and that further meetings are expected to take place before a deal is officially announced, but it is expected that LeBron will accept the proposed offer.

At the moment David Beckham is still looking to secure the main investor groups needed to launch the franchise, but to bring in LeBron is a massive coup on its own, as he is one of the wealthiest, influential and a massive name in the sporting world.

Beckham was in Miami last week, watching the Miami Heat play at their American Airlines Arena, but his first motive was to look for potential stadiums nearby and to finalise any last minute negotiations.

The campus of Florida International University and Marlins Park have been touted as potential venues.

David Beckham labelled Miami as “one of those places” when he was asked why he chose the city, as he had the option to a buy a franchise at a discounted price.

LeBron James already has some experience with a football club, he owns a minority stake in Liverpool and has displayed his joy that Beckham has chosen Miami as the city for the franchise.

“It’s excellent news for Miami sport that he chose us. I met him when he came to watch The Heat Play. He seems a cool guy, so I’d like to get to know him more," he said.

“I know things can be kind of crazy at the start, so I’d like to invite his family around our house to have dinner with our family. We live in a great neighbourhood – it would be cool to be neighbours.”
