Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a massive blow with news that Danish international Christian Eriksen has suffered an ankle injury whilst on international duty with his country.
He lasted just 40 minutes of a friendly with Norway on Friday before being forced from the field with an ankle injury.
Eriksen hobbled off and watched the remainder of the game from the bench with an ice pack strapped to the troublesome joint.
The 21-year-old will return to London ASAP to be assessed by Spurs' medical staff, but the outlook looks grim for one of Spurs' brightest players of this season.
Denmark coach Morten Olsen believes Eriksen could be out of action for a while, which would mean that he would miss miss Tottenham's busy festive period.
The disheartened coach said: "We don't know if he's out for four or six weeks or how long it will take. It's bad for him at a new club."
Eriksen joined Spurs from Ajax over the summer, although now is poised to miss important games at home and in Europe.
Tottenham face Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Southampton in the Premier League over the December period, whilst they also take on Tromso and Anzhi Makhachkala in the Europa League, with a Capital One Cup quarter-final with West Ham United also on the cards.
