Real Madrid have entered the race for highly-rated Manchester United target Nemanja Matic, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.
The Serbian playmaker, who has been identified by David Moyes as the type of creative midfielder that his squad needs in the January transfer window, has been attracting interest from all over Europe.
And now Madrid are ready to properly register their intent, following the nasty knee injury sustained by Sami Khedira whilst on international duty with Germany.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder, who has also been linked with a sensational return to Stamford Bridge, is valued by current club Benfica at around £42million, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is hoping to lower that figure to closer to £20million.
It is thought that Benfica aren't keen on the prospect of selling one of their key stars, but could be tempted if a big enough bid comes in. No matter what their stance however it seems that United and Madrid will fight it out.
The Red Devils will most probably be keen to match any bid made by Madrid, having previously been reported to be leading the race to sign the 25-year-old.
