Lazio are on the trail of Red Bull Salzburg's coveted centre-back Martin Hinteregger, according to talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old has been in good form for the Austrian outfit this season and revealed in September that David Moyes was interested in bringing him to Old Trafford in the summer.

However, a move to Old Trafford never materialised and now Lazio are hoping to take advantage of Moyes' inaction.

Lazio are looking to strengthen a faltering back line that has already conceded 16 goals in 12 games in Serie A this season.

The Rome outfit are languishing in eighth while their city rivals AS Roma sit top of the table having conceded only three.

Arsenal are also credited with an interest for the Austrian under-21 international as Arsene Wenger looks to add depth to his defence at the Emirates.

Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have been in fine form for the Gunners this season but injuries and suspensions have forced Wenger in to using right-back Bacary Sagna in a central position, indicating the need for additions.

Hinteregger has a contract with Red Bull Salzburg until the summer of 2018 but is believed to be available for just £2m.

Juventus are also thought to be tracking his progress, giving added competition for the Gunners and Manchester United.
