Barcelona linked with shock move for Dimitar Berbatov
The out-of-favour Fulham forward is being eyed up by Gerardo Martino in the wake of Messi's injury
Barcelona are looking to bring in another forward in the wake of the injury to Lionel Messi, and have surprisingly targeted ex-Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.
The Bulgarian is experiencing a difficult period at Fulham, and is out of contract at the end of this season, which means he would be available for a low sum in January.
And reportedly Barca boss Gerardo Martino is a fan of Berbatov's style of play, particularly due to his excellent first-touch and aerial presence.
Of course the 31-year-old is no stranger to playing at top level football, having enjoyed stints at both Tottenham and Manchester United before his move to Craven Cottage.
Martino is said to be looking for someone who can slot in immediately in the absence of Messi, who may miss up to two months with his hamstring injury, and so sees the Bulgaria striker as an ideal, and perhaps more importantly economical, candidate.
However Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Aguero and even ex-Chelsea star Didier Drogba are also mooted targets, and one gets the feeling that any deal concerning Berbatov would only be a temporary measure.
